Permissions Justification
Context Flow requests only the minimum permissions necessary for functionality. Here's exactly why each permission is needed:
Permission | Specific Purpose | Data Access | Data Usage | Alternatives Considered |
---|---|---|---|---|
tabs | Read tab URLs and titles ONLY when tabs are updated or created | Current tab URL and title only | Analyze for context detection, store locally for workspace organization | No alternative - required for core functionality |
storage | Save workspaces, notes, and user settings | User-created data only | Local Chrome storage API - never transmitted | No alternative - required for data persistence |
activeTab | Inject brain dump interface ONLY when user presses Ctrl+Shift+Space | Current page title and URL for note context | Add context to saved notes - stored locally only | No alternative - required for brain dump feature |
scripting | Enable brain dump overlay injection on user command | No data collection - only UI injection | Display brain dump interface - no data stored | No alternative - required for content script injection |
🛡️ Permission Limitations
Important: Even with these permissions, Context Flow is designed with strict limitations:

- No History Access: We don't read your browsing history - only current tab information
- No Cross-Site Tracking: We don't track you across websites
- No Data Mining: We don't analyze your data for advertising or profiling
- User-Initiated Only: Brain dump feature only activates when you explicitly trigger it
